Australia documentation
for a wedding in Kefalonia, Greece
The bride and groom will need to obtain the following legal papers:
- Passport
- A valid 10-year passport.
- Birth Certificate
- A printed Birth ceritificate.
- Certificate of No Impediment (Freedom to Marry)
- Issued by the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages of the relevant State in Australia. These certificates must not be older than 90 days prior to the date of your wedding.
- Decree Absolute (only if applicable)
- If divorced, a Divorce certificate will be required.
- Death Certificate (only if applicable)
- If widowed, a death certificate will be required.
- Adoption Certificate (only if applicable)
- If adopted, the adoption certificate will be required.
- Proof of Name Change (only if applicable)
- If a name change has occurred then a deed poll (statutory declaration) will be required.
- Orthodox Weddings
- In addition to the above, either the bride or groom must be Orthodox. Both the bride and groom must be baptised and have a Baptism certificate (signed and stamped by their local priest). They must consult with their local priest who will arrange for a letter of 'celibacy' or freedom and consent to marriage.
Legalisation in Australia
Your legal documents must be legalised, by means of an Apostille, translated in Greek and then certified by a Consular officer.
